Jazmine Sullivan

JazmineJazmine was raised and born in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Pam the mother of Jazmine was a backing vocalist with Philadelphia International Records. In the age of five her father was named to be one of the cities' Historic Strawberry Mansion curator. The family then moved into this historical building. As a 2005 Philadelphia High School for the Creative and Performing Arts student She is an instructor in singing. Sullivan started singing as a contralto in the children's choir. She then joined shortly after, she was a part of the adult choir. Sullivan experienced only a small amount of secular music. The singer recalls that she was singing as a soloist in a church service when someone advised her to join an evangelical label, however she wasn't ready for the job. "Then the time came that McDonald's had a competition for students in big cities I was invited to sing 'Accept What God Wills' on Showtime on the Apollo and the audience was very enthusiastic". At the age 13 she performed along with Stevie Wonder for his grandson's birthday celebration. Sullivan was signed initially to Jive Records at the age 15. In Jive Records, she made the entire album but it was never released. Sullivan was eventually dropped from the label. They had a strong working relations and Missy Elliott. Elliott produced numerous tracks for her, including "Backstabbers", which was written by Timbaland.
